West Pelton - Saltburn Weekend

Church Family weekends to Saltburn are an important part of the life of the church. They first started about 15 years ago when we first joined up with West Pelton St Paul's under the leadership of their vicar John Lintern and last year was our 10th visit.

For a while, we visited every other year but for the past five years, it has become an annual event mainly because the weekend is enjoyed so much and is a time of spiritual refreshment. We now meet in June but, in the early days, October was the month chosen for the visit. Recent leaders of the weekend have been our circuit ministers, Roger Brown, Brigitta Steele and Anne Eccles. The weekend begins with a meal on the Friday followed by an introduction to the weekend. Saturday consists of discussion around a theme in the morning, free time in the afternoon followed by a social evening to round off the day. A service in the centre on Sunday morning brings together everything we have done over the weekend in a meaningful way.

Although organised by ourselves, the party of approximately 20 is made up of members from St Paul's, Birtley and Chester-le-Street Chapels and St Mary's & St Cuthbert's Church. Staying at the Christian Holiday centre, Brockley Hall, gives those attending the opportunity of relaxing in the elegant Victorian house situated in the centre of Saltburn. Brockley Hall is currently undergoing a facelift with the addition of 11 en-suite rooms as well as a new conservatory. The question on everyone's lips at the end of the weekend is "What is the date of next year's visit?".

Next year's date: 17th - 19th June 2011
